The art of lost wax

Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years, it is the process by which a duplicate metal sculpture (often silver, gold, brass or bronze)  is cast from an original sculpture.  Dependent on the sculptures skills, intricate works can be achieved by this method.  The oldest  known examples of this technique are the objects discovered in the cave of the treasure ( Nahal Mishman) hoard in Southern Israel, which belonged to the chalcolithic period (4500 – 3500 Bc)  Th procedure today is basically the same as that used by the chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium.
